The Marta Hewett Gallery and Ripley Auctions will partner, for the first time, for their online auction presentation of Objects of Note, which will feature significant works of contemporary studio glass from several private collections. Offerings will include important glass works by David Bennett, Sonja Blomdahl, Dale Chihuly, Dan Dailey, Martin Janecky, Jon Kuhn, Dante Marioni, Jay Musler, Stephen Rolfe Powell, Ginny Ruffner, and other significant glass artists. An online preview of the auction will be available beginning on February 13th at www.ripleyauctions.com. Registration and auction pre-bidding will begin February 13th. Live bidding starts at 1pm on Sunday, the 21st. The Marta Hewett Gallery in Cincinnati, OH has been presenting auctions of contemporary studio glass for more than a dozen years. The gallery was one of the first to offer opportunities to purchase notable contemporary works on the secondary market in a formal auction setting beginning in 2004. At that time, the auction service was extended to clients in addition to the gallery’s regular exhibitions, which had been presented since 1990. The Marta Hewett Gallery has exhibited finely crafted contemporary art by artists from throughout the world for more than 25 years and currently serves collectors on five continents.
Dan Ripley, proprietor of Ripley Auctions in Indianapolis, IN conducted the first U.S. auction dedicated to 20th Century art glass from Murano in 1992. Ripley has also been involved in selling glass works from the American Studio movement since 1990. He was the first to market auctions of glass art online and has produced dozens of auctions of glass art over the past 25 years. Dan Ripley has served as the Director of Modern Glass for Treadway/Toomey. Ripley has also produced sales of glass art for Christie’s and Wright auction houses.
