Description:

Andrew Jackson 6pc group: Jackson's pamphlet vetoing an Act of Congress, March 28, 1830 & "Hard Times" letters: Dr. Henry Dowling, 1835; Isaiah Dickey & Co, 1837; F.B. Deane, 1841; Bol...
Jackson's message vetoes Federal financing of the Maysville Road in Kentucky, a project strongly supported by his chief enemy Henry Clay. Also includes an image of Jackson "Likeness from a Daguerreotype taken from life," Jackson, Frye and Co., New York.

The four letters paint a picture of political and difficult financial times in the mid-1830s through 1941. The Dowling letter writes, "What of politics in VA? Loudoun I perceive is still Anti-Jackson, Fie for Shame Loudoun! Hussa for Jackson (in calm serious __) the Second Washington and all American statesmen fit only to stand by his side in bold relief on history's page." Dickey writes, "We write you that you may know what kind of troubles we have to contend with. The whole concern seems to be out of joint. Business is exceedingly dull and cash scarce."
