Krishna Reddy, born in 1925 in the village of Nandanoor, India, began his education at Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, where he received his Fine Arts diploma. While there, he participated in the "Quit India Movement" in 1947 by painting hundreds of posters and going around at night, pasting them on walls and buildings. He attended London's Slade School of Arts* in 1949, and then traveled to Paris in 1951 to study under Stanley Hayter of Atelier 17* in Paris.
His work began in sculpture and Reddy's claim that sculpture is his love and the source of his inspiration can be easily recognized in his prints, as well as his sculpture and drawings.
While living in Paris he met with the Surrealists* and Abstract Expressionists*, including Brancusi, Giacommetti, Andre Masson, and Ossip Zadkine.
Reddy currently lives in SoHo and is a Professor Emeritus of Art and Art Education at New York University. He has taught at the University of Wisconsin and was Professor and Director of the Department of Graphics and Printmaking at New York University.
His works has been included in countless solo and group exhibitions internationally and is represented in the collections of the Library of Congress, Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts, Portland Art Museum, Worcester Art Museum, Winnipeg Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Bhopal.
