Philip Platt whose full name was Daniel Philip Platt (and also signed his work Philip D. Platt). Limited information is available about Platt's career as an artist. He was trained as a physician and was a Navy physician who traveled with his family on a medical ship to Asia and Europe during World War II. As some point he studied with Hayter at the Atelier 17 in New York in the 1940s.

Platt went on to use his design and engraving skills to work as a silversmith in Taxco, Mexico until illness brought him back to the U.S. where he died. He was living in Taxco, Mexico, working as a silversmith in 1949 when he was included in the Fourteenth Exhibition of Prints by Members of the Atelier 17 Group which was mounted at the Laurel Gallery in New York. His work was included in exhibitions of the American Society of Etchers and was shown at the National Academy, Library of Congress, Carnegie Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Platt is represented in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
