Biography from Wickliff & Associates Auctioneers, Inc: The following biography is from the obituary of the artist as published in the Indianapolis Star, Febraury 6, 2005.

Rosemary Lawton Thomas, a prominent Indiana artist, passed away Monday, January 31, 2005. Born in 1919 in Mulberry, IN, her main influences have been beautiful woodlands, farms, and waterways of her native state.

She entered and was accepted in her professional competition in 1948 at the Herron Museum of Art, and has been in over seventy competitions during her career of over 50 years. Her work has hung in numerous museums, universities, public buildings and galleries. She was a graduate of Herron School of Art and attended Ball State (University) as an art major.

She was a member and past president of the Indiana Artists' Club Inc., charter and signature member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, member and instructor at The Indianapolis Art Center, member of the Hoosier salon and a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.

She was selected for publication in the Who's Who of American Women 2000-2001. Experience
in the field includes head artist in display for L.S. Ayres & Co., free-lance visual communications for published advertising and interior design, both private and commercial, as well as over fifty years of teaching art."
