Rare Cufflinks From IMS Founder Headline Ripley Auctions May Indy 500 and Automobilia Auction

A set of cufflinks that belonged to one of the men who changed the course of automobile racing history
is the premier item in Ripley Auction’s annual Indy 500 and Automobilia Auction on May 26, 2022.
The cufflinks belonged to James A. Allison, one of the four founders of the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway, and the man who ran the famous Brickyard starting in June 1923, when he succeeded his
longtime business partner Carl G. Fisher as the track’s president.
Allison also was heavily involved in engine development, forming the Allison Experimental Company
which later became the Allison Engineering Company. After his passing the company later spun off many
entities including the world-famous Allison Transmission.
The cufflinks bear Allison’s initials and the original version of the Speedway’s famed “Wing and Wheel”
logo.
“James Allison is one of the most influential figures in Central Indiana history during the early 20th
century, having contributed to the birth of the Town of Speedway and of course the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway itself” said Dan Ripley, Owner and Senior Specialist of Ripley Auctions. “We are proud to have
such a special item from one of the four IMS founders headline our May Indy 500 and Automobilia
Auction, one of our most popular annual events”.
The Indy 500 and Automobilia Auction annually features rare auto racing items including pit badges,
programs, autographs, helmets, uniforms, and framed artwork. The auction will be held live and in
person at Ripley Auctions at 2764 E. 55th Place, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46220, as well as online bidding
platforms AuctionZip, Invaluable and Live Auctioneers. Telephone and absentee bids will also be
accepted.
Consignments are still being accepted for the auction and can be arranged by calling Scott Fitzgerald,
Director of Sports and Memorabilia at [email protected].
