Biography from the Archives of askART: Anne Graile Helioff, although born in Liverpool, England, became a naturalized citizen of the United States. She studied at the Art Students League in New York with, and was a contemporary of, renowned artists Homer Boss (1882 - 1956) and Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1893 - 1953). She worked as an apprentice, student and eventually contemporary to Kuniyoshi during his tenure with the Woodstock Art Association at Woodstock, New York. Her work was greatly influenced by her close friendship and tutelage under both of these artists.

Helioff held the positions of Secretary and later President of the Woodstock Artist Association, Director of the American Society of Contemporary Artists, and Director of the New York Society of American Women Artists.

She exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Philadelphia Museum; the Berkshire Museum; plus many other group and one-man shows in addition to winning numerous awards.
