Biography from Mika Gallery: Bernard Segal was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Cincinnati University and the Cincinnati Art Academy.

In the 1920's and 1930's, he lived in New York City and attended The Art Students League where he was creative with a number of artistic styles of the period.

During World War II, he worked as a cartoonist for a government issue newspaper paper called 10-SHUN that was published in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bernard worked under the penname Seeg, and was the author of the comic strip Hank and Honey, that appeared in the New York Herald Tribune from the 1940s through the 1950s. This cartoon was syndicated and published in Quebec under the title Louise et Louis. The strip was later retitled to Ellsworth. Segal also illustrated a number of books that were published by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, and Bible stories.

In the 1950's Segal moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and became a member of the New Hope Modernists. He worked with esteemed artists such as George Nakashima, Charles Evans, Louis Stone, and Charles Ramsey.

Segal's most noted work was made during the 1960's, during which time he produced paintings and collages in the abstract expressionist style. He enjoyed painting bright abstract oil, gouache, watercolors, and his subjects ranged from pure abstractions and cubist figurative works, to people shopping and watching television as well as to urban and rural landscapes. He also was known to create abstract mixed media collages from strips of paper and magazine clippings.

Segal taught art at Rutgers University - Camden, New Jersey.

After your initial invoice payment is made, your order will go automatically go to Shipping Saint. Buyers will not automatically receive a shipping invoice. You will be sent a separate invoice for shipping once your initial invoice is paid and your items are packed and ready to ship. Shipping invoiced via Shipping Saint will ask you to verify your address before paying by credit card.
PICKUP: Items are subject to storage fees if they are not removed from premises within 10 business days. If items require third party shipping, arrangements and removal must be completed within 15 business days.
