"A Tale of Two Artists: Pearl Rombach and Blendine Carpenter."
By Brian Bixler

"I never graduated from any one place but I have credits from many different places. I suppose if I added up all the courses I've taken, I'd have a degree." Carpenter laughs.

Originally from Sheldon, Ill, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Art School of Saugatuck, Mich., and the Jerry Pierce School in Tucson, Ariz. She also has taken private lessons from various teachers from New York to Miami, where she lived before moving to Titusville. She's a charter member and past-president of the Joliet Artists' league in Illinois, and past-president of the Miami Art League.

With dozens of award-winning works to her credit and the impressive accomplishment of having exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D. C., Carpenter is very nonchalant about her mastery. "I don't put a lot of value on it because it's always come so easy to me," she says of her skill.

Carpenter has tried to pass her ease of painting on to others by teaching a few students in her home studio. Those who study with her feel fortunate. Carpenter explains her artistic secrets simply:

"Just put down what you see," she tells her pupils. "But you've got to learn how to see first. A lot of people don't see like an artist does. You know that, don't you? An artist can see a woman by a white wall but can also see colors behind her."
