Gauntlet gloves - Potawatomi ca. 1890s - rare
Excellent antique Potawatomi beaded gauntlet gloves that showcase old beads including pumpkin and greasy yellow. The beadwork is done one bead at a time and the leather is brain tanned with an old cloth lining.

The Potawatomi were part of a long-term alliance, called the Council of Three Fires, with the Ojibwe and Ottawa. In the 19th century, they were pushed to the west by European/American encroachment in the late 18th century and removed from their lands in the Midwest to reservations in Oklahoma.

  • Condition: Great condition - no bead loss. Leather is soft and subtle.
