George Biddle, sculptor, painter and graphic artist and illustrator was born in Philadelphia. Well educated, he was known as a social realist painter who captured scenes from everyday life. Through his friendship with Franklin Roosevelt, he helped initiate the Federal Art Project that later became known as the W.P.A.
