J.J. Marek exhibited at the 2nd Biennial Ceramic Exhibition at the John Herron Art Museum in Indianapolis in 1953, where he received a second prize for a group of three free-form bowls.

Per the artist's obituary:
Originally from Czechoslovakia, Jerry J. Marek, 81, Brownsburg, died Friday evening February 26 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, where he was a patient a few days.
Marek, who moved to Brownsburg in 1936, was born May 1, 1900 at Tilsen, Czechoslovakia, and he was the son of Frank and Marie Marek. He and his wife, Vlasta, moved to the United States in 1922. A local businessman, Marek, who was a ceramic engineer in pottery, operated a ceramic factory before World War II at his rural home. He also raised hybrid gladioli, developing new types and placing in several horticultural shows. He was employed at American Art Clay Company, Indianapolis, 13 years, and then worked in a laboratory at Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corporation, Indianapolis, during World War II (1943 to 1945). In 1946, he opened Northside Cafe at Brownsburg and operated it a year when he was asked to represent the United States as an exchange ceramic professor for a year in the Honduras. He returned to Brownsburg and during the period before 1957 wrote a column for the Brownsburg Record, a weekly newspaper. Between 1957 and May 1981, he also resided in Florida.
