John Stevens Coppin (American, 1904-1986), Northwest American Indians or Eskimos, oil on canvas, 24" x 22", signed lower right, c.1955. Coppin was a prominent portrait painter, muralist, and illustrator. Noted for covers of "AAA Motor News" magazine, forerunner of "Michigan Living". Portrait subjects include actor Sir Alec Guiness, artist Sadakichi Hartmann in the National Gallery in Washington, General Motors President James M. Roche, automobile tycoon Henry Ford, and others.
