Description:

Joseph Anthony Buzzelli
New York, (1907-1983)
Park Scene
watercolor and gouache on paper
signed lower right.

Buzzelli was a prolific painter and sculptor. In a career spanning 55 years, the artist experimented across a range of modernist styles before concentrating on abstraction. His latter paintings also focused on social causes, especially environmental conservation. Buzzelli had seen the damage humanity had done to nature in his extensive travels. When he settled down in Casey Key in the 1960s, he was determined to prevent that from happening here. Preserving nature became the subject of many of his last paintings.
