He began exhibiting his color etchings and aquatints at the Paris Salon after 1910. Lorrain's art was awarded a bronze medal in 1920 and a gold medal in 1924. During his career, Rene became best known for his landscapes and city scenes, mostly after the watercolors and paintings of his contemporaries. Lorrain also created etching for illustrated books such as Georges Rodenbach's, "Bruges la Morete" (1930).
