Biography from the Archives of askART:
Roy Moyer, an artist and art administrator, did landscapes, still life and genre scenes, and his paintings are in various public collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Rose Art Museum.

He was born in 1921 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, graduated from Columbia University, and then served during World War II in North Africa and Italy with the US Army. After the war, he enrolled in Columbia University, earning a Master's Degree in English Literature and taking additional courses in art history.

In addition to his own creativity, he had a strong commitment to art project organization. He served as President of the American Society of Contemporary Artists from 1985 to 1987, and from 1963, he was Director of the American Federation of Arts, which organizes exhibitions for travel across America. Among the AFA exhibitions he helped create are "Art and the Found Object" featuring Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg and Joseph Cornell. Circulating in 1960, it was a major breakthrough for exposing the public to found-object artwork. Moyer also oversaw a 1963 recreation of the 1913 New York Armory Show, which brought widespread American attention to modernist art.

Moyer died at the age of 85 on April 6, 2007 at his home in Manhattan.
