Biography from the Archives of askART: Stephen I. Stoller (b.1945, New York) is an American oil painter and sculptor.

Stoller married poet Francy Stoller in 1969. He has six children: Judah Pablo, Ben, Abraham, Danielle Love, Navahjo, and Moses. He currently resides in New York City and Whitehall, New York.

Stoller worked and learned his art on the streets of New York and other cities around the world. His early studio works were exhibited on Madison Avenue and other mainstream galleries in New York City.

In 1982, Stoller defined himself a street painter. Stephen renders the figurative with activity and communication in the urban setting. He works using the live model and architecture as a basis for his work. His style is a definite and immediate application that drives at the nature and soul of the composition.

Stoller's work has been acquired by major institutions in the Midwest. Two canvases were chosen for museum exhibition at the High Museum, "Georgia Artists." Stoller has had numerous one person shows throughout his forty year career.

Since 1997, Stoller has established himself as a leading street painter in New York City after spending 15 years in Indianapolis, Indiana. His most recent major exhibition was at Art Expo, New York, Javits Center, Feb 2002. In 2008, Stoller had a painting admitted to the permanent collection at the Indiana State Museum (Indianapolis).

Steve Stoller under his pseudonym (John Serpent) wrote Memoirs Of An Unknown Artist in 2009. His new book The Poet should be in stores in the first few months of 2010.
