Biography from the Archives of askART:
Showing an early aptitude for art, Ted Gall's mother enrolled him in Saturday classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Only eleven years old he rode the train to class by himself every Saturday, never missing a session.

In high school his counselors steered him towards an industrial arts curriculum, the first of many experiences which would help define the artist. In industrial arts Gall learned to weld, work with power tools and think in three dimension. After high school Gall worked at an animation studio in Chicago, starting off as a gopher and eventually being hired as an animator. Gall loved the work, but left it to join the Marines and serve in the Vietnam War.

Gall then married and took a job in the graphic design division of a printing company. Unsatisfied with the job, Gall signed up for night classes at the Art Institute where he studied sculpture and pursued a bachelor's degree.

A friend of Gall's told him about an automobile parts manufacturer in Skokie, Illinois who was starting an artist-in-residence program. Gall applied and got the position in which he could use the company scarps to create art. Gall stayed with the company, Fel-Pro for 20 years. His job grew to include graphic design and corporate identity work.

In the late 1980s Gall and his wife decided to move to Southern California. In California his artwork and own style developed. He began making more sophisticated figures and heads which he then decorated with accent pieces which defined the sculpture.

Ted Gall continues to experiment and grow with his art from his home and studio in Ojai, California.
