Tony Feher
American, (b.1956)
Black With Holes, 2008
found materials; granular black plastic on unfolded McDonald's box
signed, titled and dated verso. Encased in standing display frame.

From the archives of AskArt: Born in Corpus Christi, Texas and living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tony Feher moved to New York City in 1981, and has devoted himself to creating mixed-media sculptures that celebrate everyday products and disposable goods.

With an aversion to symbolism beyond what 'you see', he is fascinated by the potential beauty of the 'ordinary' and makes sculptural arrangements that are hung from the ceiling or stacked on the floor with found items.

His creative work in his 2013 Bronx Museum solo exhibition, a survey of his 25 year career, was described in The New York Times as an assertion that "almost anything can be beautiful if it's presented in the right way. . .His palette consists almost entirely of cheap manufactured objects, including glass and plastic bottles, metal and plastic bottle tops; marbles, coins, metal rings, plastic bags, rope, plastic cord, shredded paper, cans and cardboard boxes. He organizes these and other things into simple but surprisingly exciting, often funny configurations with intriguing philosophic implications."

Solo exhibition venues include the Center for Curatorial Studies at the Museum at Bard College at Annandale-on-Hudson, New York; Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas; the Worcester Museum; Addison Gallery of American Art; Hammer Museum at UCLA and Bronx Museum.

Feher has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Texas.
