Biography from the Archives of askART: Sally Brant Kriner (1911-2011) was born in Bradford, Ohio. She moved with her family to Indianapolis, Indiana, at an early age. After marrying and raising a family, she rekindled and pursued her childhood fascination with art, attending John Herron School of Art*, Indiana University, Indianapolis Art League and Long Boat Key School of Art in Florida.

In 1964, Sally and her husband Leo purchased a log cabin home on a ridge just south of Bean Blossom, Indiana. Although the original log cabin remains at the core of the home, extensive renovations and additions include a large cathedral ceiling studio overlooking the beautiful hills of Brown County*. Using the natural northern light, she devotes most of her time to painting portraits of flowers.

She was a student of George Jo Mess, Simon Baus, Elmer Taflinger, Harry Davis, V. J. Cariani, Leota Loop, Curry Bohm and Paul Sweany, and Emile A. Gruppe' of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

As a good friend of Marie Goth's, Sally was influenced greatly by Marie and was the only person sponsored for acceptance into the Brown County Art Guild by V. J. Cariani and Marie Goth. She was a full member of the Guild from 1968 until her death in December 2011.

Kriner was a member of Indiana Artists Club, Brown County Art Guild and founder of South Side Art League in Indianapolis. She had many one-artist shows and exhibited in major shows, including Hoosier Salon*, Indiana State Fair, 500 Festival, Indiana Artists Club Annual, Mid-State Evansville, White River Valley, Wabash Valley, Brown County Art Guild and Chaffee Gallery in Rutland, Vermont. Sally has won numerous awards and is represented in private and public collections throughout the United States and abroad.
