decorated at the back with a pair of gloves carved in high relief, the arms modeled as axes, the rails inscribed in Cyrillic Tishe edesh, dalshe budesh [Russian proverb: a stitch in time saves nine]


The form is derived from 17th century Russian folk furniture and was originally produced by Shutov in 1870 for the All-Russian Manufacturing Exhibition, held in St Petersburg.
