From the Archives of AskArt: Marx was born in Nordheim, Germany in 1925, and is a member of the faculty of the School of Art at Syracuse University. He took his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Illinois in 1953. Since that time he has exhibited in many major national exhibitions. His work has been invited to the Dallas National Print Exhibition; the Victoria and Albert Museum International Exhibition; Washington University International Print Exhibition; Chicago Art Institute American Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture; and the 27th Biennial at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He was also included in the 157th Annual Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. This year he has again been invited to the Corcoran Biennial, the 28th.

He has received numerous prizes for his paintings including the Roberson Art Center Exhibition first prize; the Rochester Finger Lakes Exhibition painting award; the Louis D'Amanda Memorial Award and Juror's Show Award; and has been honored twice by the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute. He is represented in the permanent collection of the later as well as in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; Philadelphia Museum; Dallas Museum; Milwaukee Art Institute; Washington University; Seattle Art Museum; University of Wisconsin Union; International Mineral and Chemical Co; Syracuse University; and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
